Lead Trusts: Improve Your Family Gifting
The April UVEPC event will feature Cristina Pianezzola, JD, director of the Gift Planning Department at Utah Valley University since 2010. In her presentation, Cristina will review the different types of Charitable Lead Trusts, how each is best used, and what the advantages and pitfalls are of each option. She will also lead a discussion of how different Lead Trusts are taxed. The impact of the different types of Lead Trusts on the Gift Tax, Generation Skipping Transfer Tax and the Estate Tax, based on 2018 tax law, will be explored.
Cristina Pianezzola is an alumna of Utah Valley University, where she was a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and served as the international vice president of Phi Theta Kappa. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in philosophy from Texas Tech University, attending on a Presidential Leadership Scholarship. As a recipient of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, she used the funds to attend Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark School of Law, where she obtained her juris doctorate degree. After practicing law for several years with Utah Legal Services, she joined the development team at UVU in 2000 as the attorney for the Office of Gift Planning, became the director of Annual Giving in 2003, and subsequently became director of the Gift Planning Department in 2010.
